TREASURERS

INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Persons charged with petit treason
to be indicted,
&c. and punished as in other cases of murder, according
to the degree,
Payment to be made to the treasurer
in cases of escheat
of a part of lands held in tenancy in common,
A stated account, signed by the treasurer,
to be produced
on motion for judgment against county clerks,
The form and penalty of the bonds
to be given by
the treasurers, prescribed,
—The security to be approved by the governor and
council,
—The governor and council empowered, when the
securities become invalid, to require such treasurers
to
give bond, &c.
—A refusal within twenty days to be a disqualification,
and the vacancy to be filled by the governor and
council, during the recess of the assembly,
The treasurer of the western shore
empowered to
subscribed for bank shares, &c. as therein directed,
—To pay the valuation of slaves or servants, where
punishment is commuted, on the order of the governor,
The treasurers, under the direction
of the governor
and council, invested with powers to demand and receive
payment of arrearages due to the state,
—To furnish the governor and council, when requested,
with statements thereof,
—Debts due to be paid to the treasurer only,
—The treasurers to take bonds under the direction
of the governor and council,
—To approve bonds taken on sales, to be deposited
in the treasury of the western shore,
The treasurer to report them to the
general assembly,
—Similar provisions as to property taken back or
compromised,
Directions respecting the return,
lodging with the
treasurer, and recording of bonds and schedules under
this act,
The treasurer of the western shore
to be furnished
once every year, or oftener if required, with statements
concerning the stock, &c. of the Union Bank of Maryland,
and to have a right to inspect the general books
—not to imply a right of inspecting the accounts of individuals,
but to enable him to form a just opinion of
the state of the institution, &c.

—Same, as to the Elkton Bank of Maryland,
—Same, as to the Marine Bank of Baltimore,
—Same, as to the Franklin Bank of Baltimore,
—Same, as to the Commercial and Farmers Bank
of Baltimore,
—Same, as to the Cumberland Bank of Allegany,
—Same, as to the City Bank of Baltimore,
—Same, as to the Conococheague Bank,
—Same, as to the Havre-de-Grace Bank,
The taxes on proceedings in the chancery
court to
be paid to the treasurers by the sheriffs,
The treasurers to pay the compensation
to the criers
and sheriffs appointed to keep order in the court of
appeals,
on the certificate of the judges, or a majority,
The treasurers authorised and required
to direct
suits against such debtors to the state as they deem
proper having reference to the validity thereof,
