            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

—A copy to be duly attested, under seal, to be good
evidence of such deed,
—But not to affect the right of former bona fide
purchasers of slaves claiming under such deeds, and
not to entitle slaves to freedom who had been before
adjudged such by any court of law in the state,
    No person to sell any servant or slave entitled to
freedom after a term of years, &c. to any person
not a bona fide resident for a year preceding,
—Persons so selling them, or selling them for a
term longer than they are bound to serve, to forfeit
$500 for each,
—To be recovered by action of debt, one half to the
use of the county, the other to the party prosecuting,
    Punishment of servants or slaves for putting quick
lime in any stream of water in Baltimore county to
destroy the fish,
    Directions as to runaways and petitions for freedom,
    See Negroes and Slaves.
    The act of 1728, ch. 4, relating to servants and
slaves, repealed,
    An act to prevent the unlawful exportation of negroes
and mulattoes, and to alter and amend the laws
concerning runaways,
    See Negroes and Slaves.
    When servants or slaves are sold out of the penitentiary,
the keeper to deposit the money in some bank
in Baltimore, and inform the clerk of the county, subject
to the order of the levy court,
    Free persons convicted of of enticing any slave or servant
to runaway, or harbouring slave, &c. to undergo
a confinement in the penitentiary not exceeding
6 years,
    Power of the corporation of Annapolis to punish
servants or slaves guilty of a breach of any ordinance,
unless the fine is paid by the master,

    Of Anne-Arundel county—money to be levied for
her support,

    Washington county—swine and geese prevented from
going at large,

    Sheriffs not prohibited from serving executions on
judgments by justices of the peace for small debts,
—Persons committed on ca. sa. for such debts may
be delivered to them by the constables at the county
gaol,
    Copies of the declarations of the levy courts as to
the choice of tobacco warehouses, to be delivered to
the sheriffs, and transmitted by them to the governor
and council,
—Penalty for their not causing chimneys to be demolished
when erected near warehouses,
—Directed to summon juries for the valuation of
land for warehouses, &c. on a warrant,
    Sheriffs may remove prisoners from one gaol to
another in the same county, under the direction of the
court, which shall not be considered an escape,
    Lists of monies levied for county charges to be delivered
to the sheriffs by the clerks of the levy courts,
and by them set up at the places of election.  Penalty
for neglect,
    The duties of sheriffs prescribed as to advertising
servants and slaves,
    Sheriffs directed to make payment of monies due for
fines, licences, &c.
