REISTER'S-TOWN

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

—To attend every week in day in person, or by deputy,
and in person two days in every week,

    Directions in cases where they had been appointed
auditors under the act of 1798, ch. 101,
    An act to provide for recording certain papers in the
registers office of Dorchester county,
    Duties of registers of wills as to certificates to be
given to negroes manumitted by will,
    Penalty on their knowingly granting them to negroes
not entitled to freedom, or to free negroes, except such
as belong to or were manumitted according to the laws
of this state,
    Compensation allowed to the registers,
    An act to provide or recording certain papers in the
registers of Saint Mary's county,
—Same for recording and transcribing in Prince-George's
county,
—Same in Kent county,
—Same to provide for recording certain wills in
Worcester county,
    Regulations concerning the registers fees on entering
the state's appearance, and on continuances,
    Registers of wills directed to record receipts, final
discharges, &c. to executors, administrators and guardians,
acknowledged before a justice or register,
—Such final discharge, &c. may be acknowledged
before a register of wills,
—When executed by nonresidents, and so certified,
they may be recorded; fees allowed,
    Registers of wills exempted in part from militia
duty,
—Not to be commissioners of the tax,
—Empowered in the recess of the orphans courts
to receive inventories and accounts of sales, and to state
accounts of guardians, executors or administrators,
subject to review and final passage,
—To take probates of accounts against deceased
persons, and receive the fee allowed therefor,
    Nothing in the act concerning the judgements, &c. of
the courts, to lessen the duty of the registers of wills
in recording wills, inventories, &c. but the same to be
recorded under the direction and subject to the inspection
of the orphans courts, by the periods and in the
manner required by this act,
    Hereafter the registers of wills may grant letters of
administration during the recess of the orphans court,
—All letters heretofore granted by registers in the
recess, and the proceedings under them, confirmed,
&c. as if granted by the orphans courts,
    NOTE.  The act to establish orphans courts, (February 1777, ch.
8, s. 6) directed that the registers of wills should give bond, with two
securities, in the penal sum of £2000, for the faithful performance of
their offices,

    To be appointed to the board of examiners of pilots;
his duties prescribed, and fees allowed,

    To be appointed in every port of entry of deeds of
apprenticeship, or for servitude of German or Swiss
emigrants.  See Redemptioners.

    To be kept by public notaries of their official acts,
and copies given,
