INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Measures directed to be taken on the
completion of
the building, for the reception of criminals, and the
commencement of this act,
Directions concerning the removal
of criminals
from the public roads on their electing to have the
judgments commuted,
Concerning persons thereafter to be convicted of
crimes committed before the passing of this act,
The governor and council authorised
to draw on the
treasurer for the amount of stock, &c. not to exceed
$2000, for one year ensuing the commencement of the
operation of this act,
The keeper allowed $500 annually,
to be paid by the
treasurer,
Each assistant keeper (not exceeding
five,) allowed
$200 annually, to be paid out of the treasury,
The inspectors, or any seven of them,
authorised
from time to time to draw orders on the treasurer for
the amount of materials, clothing, provisions, &c.
for
employing and maintaining the convicts, not exceeding
$10,500 for one year ensuing the first day of January
1812, and for the amount of any physician's account,
when called on,
The same to be reported by the keeper
and inspectors
to the governor and council to be necessary and proper,
and the accounts to be passed as directed by the act
of 1809, ch. 138,
The keeper to receive annually such
sum as, with
the commission on the sales, will amount to $1000, to
be paid by the treasurer,
The inspectors to forward to the treasurer
every quarter
a statement of the commission,
Each assistant keeper (not exceeding
eight) allowed
$250 annually as a salary, to be paid out of the treasury,
The inspectors to appoint a book-keeper,
who shall
discharge the duties imposed on the keeper by the 44th
section of the act of 1809, ch. 138,
His salary $500, to be paid by the treasurer,
The inspectors authorised to draw
on the treasurer
for a sum not exceeding $1500 for completing the
buildings, &c.
The inspectors directed to transmit
to the governor
and council an account of the expenditure thereof, to
be laid before the general assembly,
The inspectors, or any seven of them,
authorised
from time to time to draw orders on the treasurer for
any sum not exceeding in the whole $8000, to be applied
to the purchase of tools, &c. as they should determine,
To be accounted for in the manner
prescribed by the
act of 1811, ch. 177,
A similar authority, &c. to the amount of $4000,
Each assistant keeper to receive (at
the discretion of
the board) $150 annually, in addition, to be paid out
of
the treasury,
The inspectors, or any three of them,
empowered to
bind as apprentices the free male convicts whose times
of labour shall expire before they are of age,
To bind until the age of sixteen, any free female
convict, whose term of service shall be ended,
To bind also the children of female convicts both
during their time of service, the males till twenty one,
and the females till sixteen,
The indentures to be recorded in the
orphans court
of Baltimore county,
Any person fighting a duel, &c.
to be sentenced to
confinement in the penitentiary,
