OATHS

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

    No will in writing concerning personal estate, to be
repealed, &c. by word of mouth only, except the same
be in the life time of the testator committed to writing,
and read to and allowed by him, and proved to be so
done by three witnesses at least,

                                                           O.

    Oath to be taken by the captain or mate, taking tobacco
for exportation from any warehouse,
—By justices of the levy court on voting for any
public warehouse or inspector,
—By inspectors of tobacco,
—Inspectors to account on oath,
    Oath to be taken by viewers of tobacco,
—Required to recover tobacco, where notes are
lost,
    Directions as to the qualification, and the oaths to be
taken by justices,

    Fees to justices of the peace for every oath, &c. and
probat of accounts,
—Probats and affidavits to be prepared by them,
—Oath to be taken by them not to receive any greater
fee or reward than is therein allowed,
    Oaths to be administered by notaries in matters incident
to their office,
    Oath of office to be taken by notaries,
    Oath to be taken by members of the Board of Examiners
of Pilots,
    Oath of the judges of the court of appeals, and the
judges of the district courts, before they act as such,
—To be taken before any judge or justice, and certified
by him, and recorded in any court of which the
judge qualified as a member,
    Oath to be taken by the judges of elections,
—By the clerks,
—How to be administered,
    Oath to be taken by insolvent debtors,
—Interrogatories to be answered by them on oath,
    The solemn affirmation of quakers, &c. allowed as
a qualification for jurors, to have the same avail as
an oath,
    Oath to be taken by every inspector and keeper of
the penitentiary,
    All acts done or to be done by persons conscientiously
scrupulous of taking an oath, (as far as relate to serving
as commissioners,) declared to be good and available
in law as if they had taken an oath,
    Oaths to be taken by commissioned officers of the
militia,
—To be endorsed on the back of the commission,
    Oath to be taken by surveyors respecting the corporal
inability of militia-men,
    Oaths to be made by creditors of insolvent debtors to
their claims, or their assent not to be considered,
    Oath to be taken by commissioners of the tax,
—By assessors,
—By collectors and their deputies,
—By clerks to the commissioners,
    Oath required of subscribing witnesses to a letter of
attorney for acknowledging deeds,
    Oath to be taken by the assayer of plate in Baltimore,
    Oath, &c. required to verify a claim of title to land
to prevent a justice of the peace from taking further
cognizance of trespass by cutting timber, &c.
    Directions as to qualification by justices of the peace,
—Penalty on their acting before they take the oaths,
&c.
