INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Justices of the peace directed not
to return any supersedeas
taken by them to the county courts to be recorded
or filed,
The justice taking the supersedeas, or any other
of the county, empowered to issue executions against
the debtor and his securities, or either of them, after
the time limited,
The justice giving the judgment, or any other of
the county, may after one year, issue scire facias,
to revive
the same, to be returnable within forty days to
the justice issuing the same, or any other of the county,
To be served and returned by the constable,
Persons committed by a single magistrate
in execution
to be delivered by the constable to the sheriff or
gaoler,
The duty of justices of the peace
prescribed as to
bonds by inspectors of tobacco,
As to scales and weights,
As to viewing tobacco, on application,
As to buildings, &c. at the several warehouses,
Penalty for neglect or omission,
Allowance to each justice attending under this act,
Commissions thereafter not to issue
to any person,
(except the justices therein referred to), to be a justice
of the county court, but only to be a justice of the
peace,
The justices appointed therein to assemble at the
court-house and qualify as heretofore,
If then absent, they may qualify before any one
who has qualified,
Oath directed to be taken,
Justices of the peace authorised to
ask and receive
the fees allowed and limited in the table therein mentioned,
Their duty to writ and prepare all probats, affidavits,
supersedeas, and other instruments to be executed
by them, when required, except acknowledgments
of deeds,
To take an oath that they will not receive any
greater fee or reward than is therein allowed,
Penalty for such offence,
But not liable to prosecution after twelve months,
Justices directed to return commitments
and recognizances
to the county courts then established,
May take the bond or recognizance of a coroner,
Free negroes prohibited from selling
corn, &c. without
an annual certificate from a justice of the peace of
being orderly, &c.
