HABEAS CORPUS
HAGER'S-TOWN
HALF PAY |
INDEX TO THE LAWS.
The officer or person neglecting or
refusing to make
the return as aforesaid, or to being the body according
to the writ, or to deliver a true copy of the warrant
within six hours after demand, to the prisoner or person
demanding it on his behalf, shall forfeit to him
$500, to recover which the right of action shall not
cease by the death of either or both the parties,
No person delivered on habeas corpus
to be imprisoned
for the same offence, except by the court wherein
he shall be bound by recognizance to appear, or some
other court having jurisdiction, or upon surrender by
his bail,
A citizen of this state committed
for any criminal
matter, not to be removed to the custody of another
officer, unless by habeas corpus, or other legal
writ, or
when delivered to the constable, &c. to be carried
to
some common gaol, or when removed within the county,
or to one adjoining for trial, or in case of sudden
fire or infection, or other necessity, or being charged
by affidavit with treason or felony in any other of the
United States, when he may be delivered on the demand
of the executive authority thereof,
If the chancellor, judge, &c.
in vacation, shall on
view of the copy of the warrant, or on affidavit of its
being denied, refuse any writ of habeas corpus
as by the
act required, they shall be severally liable to the action
of the party grieved,

incorporated,

An Academy founded, &c.
A supplement, authorising a lottery, &c.
An additional supplement,

be called and
known by the name of Hager's-town, and the said
town incorporated, &c.
A new court house to be erected in
Hager's-town,
for Washington county,
The Hager's-town fire company incorporated,
The charter of the Hager's-town bank
continued
and extended to the 1st of January 1835, &c. provided
that the said bank is not released from the terms and
conditions prescribed by the act of 1813, ch. 122,
Money to be levied for procuring a
fire-engine,
A new market house to be erected,

erection of a new court house, repealed,
The Hager's-town Female Society for
the instruction
of poor children, incorporated,
A company incorporated to make a turnpike
road
from Hager's-town to intersect the road leading from
Gettysburgh, &c.

disabled while in
service entitled to half pay during life,
