INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Alien females entitled to dower, on
intermarriage
with citizens of the United States, and residing therein,
after such marriage,
On a widow giving her assent in writing
(in cases of
sales of infants lands under this act,) the sale to be
made clear of her dower, and a proportion of the money
to be awarded to her in bar thereof,
—If such assent is not given, a commission to be
issued according to the act to direct descents, and the
supplements thereto, to lay off the dower,
Widows shall be entitled to dower
in lands held by
equitable title in the husband, unless devised by a will
before this act,
—Such right not to operate to the prejudice of any
claim for the purchase money, or other lien,
Of Montgomery county—money to be levied
for his
support,
A militia man, when draughted, liable
to the duties
of a soldier, unless he shall furnish a substitute,
All able bodies male white persons,
between 18 and
45 years of age, shall stand their draught, except as
herein excepted,
—Provided that Quakers, &c. are not to be exempt,
by virtue of his exemption, from standing their
draught,
—Persons draughted to serve, or find a substitute
to be approved, &c. or one to be procured,
Substitutes liable to stand their
own draughts,
All able bodied white male citizens,
between the ages
of 18 and 45 years of age, (except ministers of the
gospel and those exempted by the acts of Congress,)
liable to stand their draught,
Militia detached not to remain in
service longer than
sixty days,
—Any person called to do a tour of duty authorised
to find a substitute,
—When draughts of the militia are called to do a
tour of duty, notice to be given,
Any person fighting a duel wilfully
and maliciously,
&c. and killing his antagonist, or wounding him so
that he die thereof within twelve months and a day,
his aiders, &c. to be on conviction sentenced to
the penitentiary
for not less than 5 nor more than 18 years,
—Any person challenging, or accepting a challenge
to fight a duel, declared incapable of holding or being
elected to any post of profit, trust or emolument, civil
or military,
—County courts to give this act in charge to the
grand jury, and other acts, &c.
—Any judge or magistrate authorised, on good
cause of suspicion of a duel, to bring the parties before
him, and to take a recognizance for keeping the peace,
&c.
—Persons leaving the state for the purpose of eluding
the law, subject to the like penalties,
—Directions to the executive for their apprehension
and trial,
