CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

money, lottery ticket, will, &c.—same punishment as
for robbery or larceny of goods and chattels.  8th.
Knowingly receiving stolen money, goods or bonds,
&c. for the payment of money, lottery ticket, &c.—
restoration or payment of the value, and confinement 
&c. not less than 3 months, nor more than 10 years.
9th.  Fraudulently employing an artist to engrave, or
being engaged in engraving any plate in imitation of
bank notes of this state, &c. or striking impressions
therefrom, or fixing fraudulent or forged signatures, or
fraudulently manufacturing or furnishing paper, &c.
or being concerned in the altering or forging any bank
note, or knowingly passing the same, or passing as genuine
a note purporting to be of a bank which does
not exist—confinement &c. not less than 5 nor more
than 10 years.  10th.  Forging or counterfeiting any
deed, will, &c. bond, receipt, &c. with intention to defraud
or assisting therein, or uttering or publishing as
true such deed, &c.—deemed felony, and punished by
confinement, &c. not less than 5 nor more than 10 years,
    The offences hereinafter mentioned, affecting the
public police, to be punished in manner following:
    1st.  Bigamy—confinement &c. not less than 1 nor
more than 9 years—with exception in cases of absence
therein mentioned—consequences as to property.  2d.
Keeping gaming tables, (except billiard tables) or
banks, with permission to bet against them, or strolling
about, and deriving a support chiefly from horse
racing or gaming—confinement &c. not less than 3
months nor more than 2 years.  3d.  Wilful importation
by commanders of vessels from any foreign country
of any felon convict or slave, or the bringing in by any
person by land or water, from any foreign country, any
negro or mulatto, with intent to dispose of such negro,
&c. as a slave—confinement &c. not less than 1
nor more than 5 years.  4th.  Any person apprehended
having on him any picklock, &c. with intent to break
into any dwelling house, &c. or any weapon with intent
feloniously to assault, or found in and about the
same with intent to steal, to be deemed a rogue and vagabond,
and on conviction sentenced to confinement
in the penitentiary not less than 3 months nor more
than 2 years.  5th.  Any person before condemned to
labour as a criminal, escaping and found in this state,
to be deemed a fugitive felon, and on conviction by record
from another state, to be confined, during the residue
of the term, &c. but if demanded by the other
state, to be delivered up,
    The offences hereinafter mentioned, affecting public
justice, to be punished in manner following:
    1st.  Perjury or subornation of perjury—confinement,
&c. not less than 5 nor more than 10 years.  2d.
Embezzling, stealing, raising, &c. any will, patent,
deed, &c. record, or parcel thereof, within the state,
whereby any right may be defeated—confinement, &c.
not less than 3 nor more than 7 years.  3d.  Forging or
counterfeiting, or causing or aiding in counterfeiting,
any commission, patent or pardon, or any warrant,
&c. whereby money may be drawn from the treasury,
or being knowingly concerned in printing, writing,
&c. such forged warrant with intention to defraud—
confinement &c. not less than 2 nor more than 10
years.  4th.  Any judge, or other person, concerned in
the administration of justice, taking any illegal fee,
gift or undue reward, to influence his behaviour in office,
and every person giving money, &c. to any judge
with such intent, to be deemed guilty of bribery, and
on conviction confined, &c. not less than 2 nor more
than 12 years.  5th.  Embracery, by procuring a juror
