COUNTY COURTS
 

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

of lands and tenements, or in cases of forcible
entry, &c. to require bond with approved security, and
direct the penalty,
    County courts directed to give the acts to suppress
duelling, &c. in charge to the grand jury,
    Directions to Baltimore county court as to applications
by insolvent debtors,
    Permits to retail to be granted in certain cases by the
clerk, and the 47th clause of the act of 1805, ch. 65,
repealed,
    The supplement to the act to prevent the inconveniences
of slaves being permitted to act as free, directed
to be given in charge to the grand jury on the first day
of the court,

    Fees in the county courts for chancery proceedings,
    Provisions concerning the recording of judgments,
&c. left unrecorded, and concerning such records in
future.  See Records.
    Remedy authorised in the county courts by attachment,
where the debt does not exceed fifty dollars,
    Powers vested in the judges concerning German or
Swiss emigrants, detained on board, ill used, &c.
    In the counties therein mentioned, the courts to
inquire whether the license to retail liquor is for the
use of the applicant, and examine him on oath; if
otherwise, to reuse the same,
To give this act in charge to the grand jury,
    The county courts, except in Worcester county
empowered, on petition by any person interested
in opening, straightening, or shutting up a public
road, to issue a commission to three freeholders
to examine whether the public convenience requires
the same,
The commissioners may locate the road, and return
the same, or report that the road ought not to be
opened, &c. with their reasons,
    Oath or affirmation to be taken by the commissioners,
    Notice to be givenevidence of the oath and notice,
    No road to pass through the buildings, yards, gardens,
or orchards, of any persons, without consent of
the owner,
    If no objection within the four first days of the next
term, the court to pass judgment, &c.
    Provision made for hearing objections to the decision
of the commissioners,
A trial by jury authorised,
    The commissioners to ascertain the damages, subject
to the order of the court,
The court to determine whether they shall be
paid by the petitioners or the county, or in proportion
by both,
    The clerk of the court to transmit to the levy court
a copy of the judgment, with the assessment of damages,
and the plot, &c.

    Directions as to the payment of the damages and
costs,
    The levy court to levy money for the road adjudged
to be opened, &c. and for the damages, and to cause
the said road to be opened, &c.
Such roads to be thereafter public roads, and kept
in repair as others,
    Compensation to the commissioners, and fees to the
officers,
