            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

notes, or passing the same knowingly, to be confined
(on conviction) in the penitentiary not less than 5 nor
more than 10 years,
    Every person convicted of forging or counterfeiting
any deed, will, &c. with intention to defraud, or aiding,
&c. or uttering or publishing as true such deed, &c.
shall be deemed a felon, and confined in the penitentiary
not less than 5 nor more than 10 years,
    Punishment for counterfeiting the stamp for silver
plate in Baltimore, &c.  See Crimes.

    Prisoners may by order be removed from one county
to another,
    Persons absconding may be arrested in any county,

    The trial of facts in the several counties provided for,

    Punishment of crimes committed without the body
of any county,
    Costs to be paid by the county from which a prosecution
is removed,
    Persons sentenced to the penitentiary to be sent at
the expense of the county; one half of the fines on
sheriffs for neglecting to remove them to be applied to
the use of such county,
    Deeds for lands lying partly in one county and partly
in another, may be recorded in either, such recording
declared valid,
    Directions for division, &c. where lands lie in different
counties, but adjoining.  See Descents.
    Warrants of resurvey to be issued from one county
to another,
    See Adjoining County.  Levy Courts.  Valuation of
Property.

    May on motion, after notice, order judgment to be
entered against their clerks on their bonds, for money
appearing due to the state, &c. and award execution,
—Mode of trial, if the demand is controverted,
    The county courts to give the act to regulate the inspection
of tobacco in charge to the grand jury, &c.
—May direct the removal of prisoners from one
gaol to another in the same county,
    Their powers respecting the production of copies of
books, &c. or compelling answers to bills of discovery,
—Respecting security for costs on suits by non residents,
and continuance thereon,
    The party for whose use the suit is entered, may be
proceeded against by attachment for the costs,
    No inhabitant to be arrested out of the county where
he resides for any debt by any capias till the return of
non est from his county,
—On such arrest, the plaintiff to suffer a non suit,
and pay costs, &c. or if on execution, the person to be
discharged,
—But not to extend to persons absconding from
justice in the county where they live, who may be arrested
in any county,
    Commissions to the justices thereafter, how to be issued,
    Oaths directed to be taken by the justices,
    Authority given to the chief justice, or either of the
associates, out of court, to direct the clerk to enter
judgments by confession, or non sum informatus,
—Each of the judges out of court to have the same
powers as those justices, &c.
    The part of the act to regulate elections, authorising
the county courts to appoint judges thereof, repealed,
