COLLEGE

 

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

    In cases of sales by collectors of the county taxes, and
their dying or removing without making a deed, or refusing,
the commissioners of the tax to order, on application,
the collector for the time being, to make
such conveyance,
    Collectors of the county taxes to be allowed the term
of one year from the expiration of the time for which
they are appointed, to collect all balances,
    The 3d section of the act of 1815, ch. 173, respecting
the sheriff and collector of Baltimore county, repealed,
    Collectors to be annually appointed for the county
tax in and for the city and county of Baltimore, &c.

    Appointed to collect and preserve estates of deceased
persons, empowered to bring suits, as an executor or
administrator might do,
—The property recovered or received to be delivered
over to the person obtaining letters testamentary,
&c.
—Proceedings directed in case of neglect or refusal,

    The funds of King William's School, in Annapolis,
vested in Saint John's College,
    Where by law the property of deceased persons
would have devolved on the free schools of any county,
and they are abolished, it is vested in the college therein,
if any, and the trustees are empowered to sue therefor,
—Saving to the different schools their rights,
—Such monies, &c. to be applied as other public
funds,
    A college by the name of Baltimore College, established
in the city or precincts of Baltimore,
    No religious or civil test to be required of the scholars,
or attendance on any particular place of worship,
—Professors or teachers not to be preferred on account
of their religious profession,
    Trustees therein named appointed,
—The principal and vice-principal to be ex officio
trustees,
    Vacancies, how to be filled,
    The trustees empowered to appoint from their board,
a president and vice president,
—To receive donations not exceeding 20,000 dollars, 
and to raise by lotteries 30,000 dollars, for buildings,
without any tax to Baltimore,
—To take and hold lands, &c. for maintaining the
college, and the same to transfer,
—the yearly value not to exceed £9000,
    The trustees, and their successors, enabled to sue and
be sued, as any other corporation,
—Empowered to appoint a principal, vice-principal
and professors, with proper tutors and assistants, &c.
    The said principals, &c. to be known and distinguished,
as one learned body or faculty, by the name of The
Principal, Vice Principal and Professors, of Baltimore
College in the State of Maryland, and in that name capable
of exercising such powers as may be delegated to
them,
—They shall, (together with the students and necessary
servants,) be exempted from all rates and taxes on
their salaries, and from military duties, except in the
case of actual invasion, when military law is declared,

    Directions for the meetings of the trustees, or a
quorum to frame regulations, ordinances, &c.

    The trustees empowered to have, make and use, a
public and privy seal,
