            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

    The levy court empowered, at any time before the
first of April 1818, to nominate and recommend to
the governor and council, inspectors of tobacco for the
several warehouses,
    Negroes, &c. not suffered to be in the store-houses
of retailers of liquors between sun-set and sun-rise.  See
Negroes and Slaves.

    In Dorchester county—provision for its regulation
and improvement—taxes, &c.
    Commissioners authorised to make by laws,
    A lottery authorised for building a wharf,
    The trustees of the Cambridge Academy incorporated,
    Additional provisions for the regulation and improvement
of Cambridge,
    A company incorporated to make a wharf,

    Of Montgomery county—money to be levied for her
support,

    Provisional authority given to the treasurer to subscribe
250 shares in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal
Company,
    Patapsco Canal Company incorporated,
    Provisions concerning the sale of the property of the
Susquehanna Canal Company,
    The discount on prizes in lotteries to be appropriated
to Canals, &c.
    The Washington and Baltimore Canal Company incorporated,

    Penalty on them for practising force or violence to
hinder any election,
—For giving or offering any bribe,

    To be returned non est from the county where a defendant
resides, before he can be arrested by such capias
out of his county, unless absconding—and the plaintiff
otherwise to suffer a non suit,

    A person arrested on attachment or capias, and permitted
to go at large, may be again arrested in virtue of
the same process, &c.  See Arrest.
—How to be issued against heirs or devisees from
one county to another,
    A sheriff having arrested any person, and dying before
the return day, the sheriff for the time being may
on the same writ again arrest the person,

    To be returned non est from the county where a
defendant resides, before he can be arrested by such

capias out of his county, unless absconding, and
the person to be discharged,

—Fees on, allowed to justices of the peace,
    Executions against state debtors may be entered not
called by consent,
    Provisions similar to those of the act of 1789, ch. 42,
relative to the entering writs not called by consent, extended
to such writs from the chancery court,
    Sheriffs, &c. on serving ca. sa. bound to accept payment
as on writs of fieri facias, which shall be valid
against the plaintiff,
—Plaintiffs to have the same remedy against there,
and their securities, as on fieri facis,
    A sheriff having arrested any person, and dying before
the return day, the sheriff for the time being may,
on the same writ, again arrest the person,
