            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

—Persons convicted to be committed to gaol on non-payment,
—If the forfeiture shall not be paid within 20 days
after such commitment, the court may sentence the person
to undergo a confinement in the common gaol not
exceeding one year, and to be treated as the court shall
direct,
    No person to exercise the office of a broker as to bank
notes, &c. allowed to be bought or sold, without a license
from the governor and council,

—Punishment of offences before deemed clergyable,

    Not to lapse, or fail of taking effect, by the death of
any legatee in the life time of the testator,

    Society of Baltimore, incorporated,

    Whoever being married, shall (the first husband or
wife, as the case may be, being alive,) marry any person
or persons, shall undergo a confinement in the penitentiary
not less than one nor more than 9 years,
—Not to extend to any person whose husband or
wife shall be continually remaining beyond the seas seven
years together, or shall be absent seven years together
within the United States, or elsewhere, the one
not knowing the other to be living at the time,
    If such offender be a man, his first wife shall, on his
conviction, be forthwith endowed of one third of his real
estate, the assignment and recovery to be as in other
cases of dower, and shall be entitled to one third of his
personal estate as if he had died intestate, and she had
