            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

    To be appointed in the city of Baltimore for the preservation
of the peace, &c.
—Empowered to perform the duties of constables,
&c.

Of Calvert county—money to be levied for his support,

    Ballot boxes and books to be provided by the sheriffs
for the judges of elections,
    Every voter to deliver to the judges a ballot, on
which shall be written or printed the names of the persons
voted for, and the purpose for which the vote is
given,
—Ballots to be deposited in the box by the judges
till the poll be closed,
—Penalty on judges or others unfolding or opening
them, with design to discover the names,
—Penalty on voters offering more than one ballot,
with a fraudulent design,
—When the poll shall be closed, the ballot box to
be opened by the judges, &c.
—If there be found more names than there ought to
be, or if two or more ballots are deceitfully folded together,
or if the purpose is not plainly designated, such
ballots shall be rejected,
—When the ballots are read off and counted, returns
to be made, &c.  See Elections,
    Voting under the charter of Baltimore to be by ballot,
    Voting for delegates to the general assembly, electors
of the senate, sheriffs, electors of the president
and vice-president of the United States, and representatives
to Congress, to be by ballot,

    Bank of Baltimore—A supplement to the act,
    Directions as to criminals escaping from other states,
—Allowance to jurors in the criminal court,
    Supplementary acts to the act of 1798, ch. 19, for
the opening of Second-street,

    Certain Methodist Episcopal Churches incorporated,
    Provision made to enable the mayor and city council
to introduce water into the city,
    Respecting the Baltimore Equitable Society for insuring
houses from loss by fire—A supplement,
    Not more than four public notaries to be at any time
appointed to reside within the city and county,
    A further supplement to the act permitting the proprietors
of lots binding on the water at the west end of
the bason to extend and improve them,
    The mayor, &c. authorised to purchase land for
erecting a lazaretto near the waters of Patapsco, to
prevent the extension of contagious diseases, &c.
    Vacant ground in Ten Feet Lane to be condemned
and called McClellan's street,
    A lottery authorised for finishing the German Catholic
Church in the precincts,
    The boundaries of Wilk's-street on Fells Point to be
established,
    Bank of Baltimore—Investment in by the state,
    The mayor, &c. empowered to authorised the drawing
of lotteries by religious societies therein mentioned,
    Nuisances to be removed from the precincts,
&c.
