INDEX TO THE LAWS.
Every free white male citizen, and
no other, having
a residence as therein directed, to have a right of
suffrage,
Chain and pole carriers to be above
the age of twenty-one,
All able bodied white male citizens,
(not therein excepted,)
between eighteen and forty-five years of age,
subject to militia duty,
—Commanding officers of companies to enrol such
citizens, and also those who may from time to time arrive
at the age of eighteen years,
In cases of doubt the age to be proved
by the person,
—Penalty on any person called on to be enrolled, refusing
to declare his age,
The provisions of the 5th section
of the act of 1785,
ch. 72, as to sales of real estates, extended to defendants

of the tax by the clerks of the county courts
and court of appeals,
—Directions as to the assessment of property which
may be so aliened, and relieving the former owners,
Empowered to take by deed or will,

The chancellor authorised in certain
cases to decree
conveyances for land purchased by citizens, the title
to which is in British subjects,
All kinds of insurance against fire,
or on lives, or on
inland transportation of goods, &c. thereafter made
by
any body corporate of any other state, kingdom, &c.
or by any copartnership of foreigners, or by any persons
not residing in this state, or authorised by a law
thereof, or some one of the United States, or of the
territories thereof, declared null and void,
—Penalty on persons making or renewing such insurances,
Any alien, denizen or foreigner, who
may be indicted
for any offence committed within this state, shall
be tried by a jury of the county, in the same manner
as the citizens thereof; and there shall be no challenge
to the array or polls for the want of foreigners on the
pannel or jury that may be returned,

before the
adoption of the constitution of the United States, to
hold lands, &c.
