CHAP. XXVI.
An Act to prevent the erection of Booths within two miles of any
Camp or Quarterly Meeting in Baltimore County.

Penalty for erecting
booths, &c. |
1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
whosoever from and after the passage of this act, shall erect a
booth for the purpose of selling, or shall sell of dispose of any
spirituous liquor, within two miles of any methodist camp or quarterly
meeting in Baltimore county, during the camp or quarterly
meeting of the said methodist society, shall forfeit and pay a sum
not exceeding one hundred dollars current money of this state, to
be recovered in the county court of said county, by indictment, one
half of the sum which may be recovered to be applied to the use of
the county, and the other half to the person or persons who shall
make information thereof. |
Not to affect
licensed retailers. |
2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That nothing in this
act shall be construed
to hinder any ordinary keeper, or licensed retailer, from selling
liquors or other things in their respective dwelling houses or
stores. |

CHAP. XXVII.
An Act, entitled, An act for the benefit of Lydia True and Eleanor
Long, of Saint-Mary's County.

Levy authorised
for their support. |
BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That
the justices of the levy court of Saint-Mary's county shall, and
they are hereby directed and empowered, at their levy court annually,
to levy on the assessable property of said county, so long
as they shall see cause, for the support and maintenance of Lydia
True and Eleanor Long, of said county, a sum of money not exceeding
thirty dollars each; and the same, when collected, shall be
paid by the collector of said county to them or their order, for the
purposes aforesaid. |

CHAP. XXVIII.
An Act for the erection of a new Market-House in Hager's-Town, Washington
County, and for other purposes.

Commissioners appointed
to select
lot for market-house,
&c. |
1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
Peter Seibert, Joseph Gabby, and Henry Shafer, be, and they are
hereby appointed commissioners, to select and purchase in Hager's-town,
near the public square, a lot or lots of ground, such as in
their judgment, or in the judgment of a majority of them, shall be
considered the most eligible, convenient and healthy site, for a new
market-house, and to purchase the same from the owner or owners
thereof, under such instructions, and upon such terms of payment
therefor, as may be given to them by the moderator and commissioners
of Hager's-town; and in case the said three commissioners,
or a majority of them, may not be able to agree with the owner or
owners for the purchase money of such site as they may determine
to be most eligible, that the sheriff of Washington county be authorised
to summon twelve good and lawful men, living out of Hager's-town,
and having no interest therein, to value, upon oath,
and condemn the said site, and their decision shall be final. |
