                                        CHAP. CIV.
An Additional Supplement to the act (a), entitled, An act for the relief
    of the Poor of Washington County.  Lib. TH. No. 5, fol. 241.

    (a)  1796, ch. 22.  Other acts, 1807, ch. 13, and the act there referred to.

CHAP. 104.

Passed Jan. 20, 1817.

    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the office of the present trustees of the poor of Washington county
shall cease and be at an end on the first Monday of June next, and
the appointment of the trustees of the poor of said county shall,
from and after the first Monday of May next, be vested in the levy
court of said county.

    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the levy court of Washington
county shall be, and they are hereby authorised and required, at
their first meeting in May next, and at their first meeting in the
month of May in each succeeding year thereafter, to appoint three
discreet and proper persons qualified agreeably to the provisions
of the original act and the supplement thereto, and of this act, to
be trustees of the poor of said county from and after the first
Monday of June next.

    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the clerk 
of the said court, within five days after such appointment, and
within he like time after any future appointments to be made in
virtue of this act, to make out and deliver to the sheriff of said
county a certificate of the appointment of each of the said trustees
so appointed, or to be appointed, endorsing one of the said
certificates for each of them respectively, which said sheriff shall,
within ten days thereafter, deliver one thereof to each of the said
trustees respectively; and it shall thereupon  be the duty of the several
trustees so appointed, and notified of such appointment, and
who shall accept thereof, under the penalty imposed by the supplement
to the original act upon any person appointed a trustee of
the poor in virtue of the said act for wilfully delaying or refusing
to take upon him the duties of the said office, to meet on the said
first Monday of June next ensuing such appointment, (except prevented
by sickness, or other unavoidable accident, and in such
case as soon thereafter as the disability shall be removed,) at the
alms-house of said county, and qualify in the manner prescribed
by the original act, and thenceforward proceed in the execution of
the duties of said office; Provided nevertheless, that nothing herein
contained shall prevent the said court from reappointing any of
the existing trustees, if they in their discretion shall deem it advisable
and proper so to do.

Proviso.
    4.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the existing trustees shall meet
at the aforesaid alms-house on the first Monday of June next, and 
deliver over to their successors all books and papers, and all and
singular the property belonging to the aforesaid alms-house, under
the penalty of twenty dollars each; to be recovered and applied as
other fines and forfeitures are directed to be recovered and applied,
in the supplement to the original act, to be taken under the care and
management of the said newly appointed trustees.

    5.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the trustees of the poor to be
appointed in virtue of this act, shall and may have, and are hereby 
invested with, the powers and authorities, and subject to all the
penalties for neglect of the duties of trustees of the poor of said
county, as are mentioned and declared in the said original act,
