LAWS OF MARYLAND.
Bond Martin to the part of the said lot so purchased by him: And
whereas the said commissioners have also prayed for such a reasonable
extension of their powers as will enable them more effectually
to accomplish and promote the due regulation and improvement
of the said town; therefore, |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
the said sale so made as aforesaid by the commissioners of the
town of Cambridge to William Bond Martin, of a part of Market-street
in the said town, be and the same is hereby confirmed and
made valid, and the said commissioners, or a majority of them,
are hereby authorised and empowered to make a deed to the said
William Bond Martin for the parcel of ground so sold to him according
to the terms of their contract, which deed shall be good
and effectual to vest in the said William Bond Martin a good legal
title to the said parcel of ground, according to the tenor thereof. |
Commissioners to
levy a tax on dogs. |
3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the commissioners
of the said
town shall have power and authority to assess and levy an annual
tax of fifty (a) cents for every dog, and the sum of one dollar for
every bitch, belonging to any of the inhabitants of the said town;
and the said commissioners shall direct the respective taxes to
be collected by the bailiff of the said town from the owner of such
dog or bitch, and may enforce the collection thereof in like manner
as is directed by the act to which this is a supplement for the collection
of assessments on the property of the inhabitants of the said
town, and the said commissioners shall have power to make such regulations
from time to time respecting the keeping of dogs and
bitches in the said town as shall be effectual for discovering the
owners thereof, and for the collection of the said tax, and may authorise
and direct the killing of any dog or bitch whose owner cannot
be ascertained.

Taxes on houses
or lands may be
charged to tenant. |
4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all town taxes
arising upon any
house or parcel of land within the said town, which is not in the
tenure and occupation of the owner thereof, may be charged to the
tenant or other occupant, who shall be liable to pay the same, and
the payment thereof by such tenant or other occupant paying
such taxes as aforesaid, may charge the same to the owner of such
house, lot or parcel of land, or deduct the same from the rent then
due, or which shall next become due thereon. |

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
the treasurers of the respective shores, hereafter to be appointed,
shall and they are hereby required, within twenty days after their
appointment, to give bond to the state of Maryland, with security,
to be approved of by the governor and council, in the penalty and |
