An Additional Supplement to the act*, entitled, An act respecting
a
Monument or Statue to the memory of Washington.

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
the site selected for the monument to the memory of Washington, on
North Charles-street, in the precincts of Baltimore, upon which
said monument hath been commenced, shall be and the same is hereby
adopted and confirmed in lieu of the place designated in the original
act; and the care and custody of the said monument, when
finished, shall belong to the mayor and city council of Baltimore. |

2. AND whereas, it is doubtful whether the
sum of one hundred
thousand dollars, authorised to be raised by one o more lotteries
for the erection of said monument, will be sufficient, therefore, BE
IT ENACTED, That James A. Buchanan, David Winchester, John
Comegys, James Calhoun, junior, Nicholas G. Ridgely, James
Williams, George Hoffman, James Partridge, Robert Miller, Washington
Hall, Isaac McKim, Lemuel Taylor, Robert Gilmor, junior,
Fielding Lucas, John Frick, James Barroll, Benjamin H. Mulliken,
Nathaniel F. Williams, Levi Hollingsworth, Edward J Coale, Dr.
James Cooke, William Gwynn, and William H. Winder, or their
survivors and survivor, be and they are hereby authorised to raise
by lottery or lotteries, as is authorised in the original act to which
this is an additional supplement, such further or other sum as may
be necessary to finish and complete the said monument, in the manner
and agreeable to the plan adopted for the same; Provided, however,
that before they proceed to the sale of tickets in such lottery
or lotteries, they give bond to the state of Maryland in double the
sum to be raised thereby, conditioned for the payment of all prizes
drawn therein, if demanded within one year after the completion of
the lottery, and if not, such prizes shall be deemed relinquished to
the purposes of the lottery; and further conditioned, that the money
so to be raised shall be applied within two years after such lottery
is drawn, to the finishing and completing of sid monument.

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
from and after the passage of this law, it shall and may be lawful
to and for John B. Davidge, William Gibson, Nathaniel Potter,
Maxwell McDowell, Samuel Baker, Elisha De Butts, Hugh
W. Evans, John Sutherland, James I. Hawkins, Jeremiah
Sullivan, George H. Steuart, Nathaniel Williams and James W.
McCullock, of the city of Baltimore, or any five of them,
to propose as managers a scheme or schemes of a lottery or
lotteries, to raise the sum of one hundred thousand dollars, over
and above all expenses of drawing or otherwise attending the
same, and to sell the said tickets in this state, and draw the said
lottery or lotteries in one or more classes in the city of Baltimore,
at such time and in such manner as they may deem best. |
