CHAP. 166.

                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

said lottery or lotteries, give their bond to the state of Maryland,
in the penalty of one hundred thousand dollars, conditioned that
they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom,
within six months after the drawing of the said lottery or 
lotteries, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn
by them, and shall place the money raised by such lottery or lotteries
in the hands of the treasurer of said company, to be applied
by the said company to the paving of the road from Frederick
town to Harper's ferry aforesaid.

Bond to be lodged
in clerk's office.
    13.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the said
managers, before they act as such, to lodge the bond, entered into
as aforesaid, in the clerk's office of Frederick county, there to be
recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or
suits may be instituted against the obligors therein mentioned, or
any of them, or their legal representatives, for any breach or non-compliance
with the conditions of the same.
Tickets may be
sold in any part of
the state.
    14.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the managers aforesaid be and
they, or any person appointed by them, are hereby authorised to
dispose of and sell all or any part of the tickets of said lottery or
lotteries, in any part of the state, and in the city of Baltimore, exclusive
of any control of the same by the corporation of the city of
Baltimore, any law or usage to the contrary notwithstanding.

    15.  This section repealed by 1818, ch. 168.

Notice.     16.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That in all cases where notice in a
public newspaper is required by the law to which this has a reference,
notice shall be given in some paper in Frederick instead of
George-town.
Repeal.     17.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That all laws heretofore passed vesting
a power in the Baltimore and Frederick-town turnpike road
company to pave the said road to Harper's ferry, as well as to form
a scheme of a lottery or lotteries, and dispose of the tickets for the
aforesaid purpose, be and the same are hereby repealed.

Preamble.     WHEREAS the president, directors and company, of the Bank
of Baltimore, the president and directors of the Union Bank of
Maryland, the president, directors and company, of the Farmers
Bank of Maryland, the president and directors of the Mechanics
Bank of Baltimore, the president, directors and company, of the
Marine Bank of Baltimore, the president and directors of the
Franklin Bank of Baltimore, the president and directors of the
Commercial and Farmers Bank of Baltimore, the president and
directors of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Baltimore, the
president and directors of the Farmers Bank of Somerset and
Worcester, the president and directors of the Cumberland Bank
of Alleghany, the president, directors and company, of the City
Bank of Baltimore, the president, directors and company, of the
Hager's-Town Bank, the Bank of Somerset, the Conococheague
Bank, and the president and directors of the Bank of Caroline,
have transmitted to the executive of this state certificates of their
determination to agree to and accept the renewal of their charters
