1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the trustees of the Hager's-Town Academy,
for the time being, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme
of a lottery for raising a sum of money not exceeding ten thousand
dollars, and to dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the said
trustees, or such majority of them as shall undertake to act under
this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets
in said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the
penalty of thirty thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well
and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within
six months after the drawing of said lottery shall commence, as
will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by them,
and after deducting the necessary expenses incurred in said lottery,
shall, within six months from the time the drawing of said lottery
shall commence, apply the money raised by such lottery to the
building of a suitable house or houses for the accommodation of the
teacher or teachers employed in said academy. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the
duty of the said
trustees, before they act as such, to lodge the bond made and entered
into as aforesaid in the office of the clerk of Washington county
court, there to be recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy
thereof suit or suits may be instituted against the obligors therein,
or any of them, or their legal representatives, for any breach
or non-compliance with the condition of the same. |

3. AND whereas the trustees of the Hager's-town
academy aforesaid
have, by their petition to this general assembly, represented
that great inconveniences has occurred, in consequence of the great
number of trustees authorised to be appointed by the act to which
this is a supplement, and have prayed that the said number may be
reduced from twenty-one to seven, which is deemed reasonable and
right; BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED, That from and after the next
election of trustees for the said academy, the community, corporation
and body politic, called and named The Trustees of the Hager's-Town
Academy, shall consist of the number of seven trustees,
instead of the number of twenty-one, as now established by law. |

4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That an election for
seven trustees
be held on the first Monday in March next, and on the first Monday
of every succeeding March, at such place in Hager's-town as
the president shall appoint, of which time and place of election the
president shall give notice in the newspapers of Hager's-town, at
least one month next preceding each election; and that such seven
trustees, when so elected, shall have all the power, perform all the
duties, and enjoy all the rights and immunities, which by the law
to which this is a supplement, were given to and required of the
twenty-one trustees in the said original act mentioned.

5. AND BE IT ENACTED, That three trustees
and the president
shall form a quorum for ordinary business, and in case of the absence
of the president, the trustees present shall appoint a president
pro tempore. |
