therein, of the notes in circulation, of the cash in hand,
and of the profits made, and shall have a right to inspect such general
accounts in the books of the bank, as shall relate to the said
statements; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to imply
a right of inspecting the account of any private individual or
individuals with the bank, nor shall such general statement and
power of inspection be used for any other purpose than to enable
him to form a just opinion of the state of the institution relative to
the public safety, and of the profits thereof, over which he is hereby
appointed guardian, as far as the same relates to the state.

CHAP. 180.

    22.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bank shall, on or before
the first day of January eighteen hundred and fifteen, subscribe
for as much stock in the turnpike road leading to Cumberland,
as will, together with the several banks now established in the city
of Baltimore and Washington county, raise a sum necessary and
sufficient to complete the said road; the said bank on subscribing
in proportion to the amount of capital actually employed and subscribed
up, or in operation, and to be paid or advanced in due
proportion to the amount of each of the said banks, subscribed in
such periods and at such times as the same may be wanted; and
any increase of capital made by the said bank, shall at all succeeding
payments thereafter be taken into consideration, and be considered
as a part of the capital contemplated under this act.

    23.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bank shall pay to the
treasurer of the western shore the sum of twenty-five cents upon
the amount of every hundred dollars subscribed and actually paid
in, for each and every year during the continuance of the said
charter, and which sum shall be, and the same is hereby pledged
by the state as a fund for the purpose of supporting county schools,
to be equally divided among the several counties of this state, and
paid over in equal portions to such persons in each county as the
legislature may hereafter appoint.

    24.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the treasurer
of the western shore, to demand of the said bank the said
sum of twenty-five cents on the sum actually paid in, on the first
day of January in each and every year, during the continuance of
this act, after the first of January eighteen hundred and fifteen.

    25.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That upon the said bank's complying
with the condition aforesaid, the faith of this state is hereby pledged
not to impose any other or further tax, bonus or imposition, of any
nature or kind, on the said bank, during the continuance of the
charter.

    26.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That this act shall continue and be 
in force until the first day of November, eighteen hundred and
thirty-five, and until the end of the next session of assembly, (subject
however to the provision in the following section,) that shall
happen thereafter.

    27.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That in the event of the several banks
in the city of Baltimore, and the bank in Washington county, not
agreeing to the provisions of an act passed at the present session*, 
entitled, An act to incorporate a company to make a turnpike road
leading to Cumberland, and for the extension of the charters of the
several banks in this state, this act shall be in force until the expiration
