Their Maties Somerset County Ssc. The Jurors for their Maties being sworne upon
Contra. the holy Evangelists at a Grand Jury held for the body of this County
Mary: Hearne. do present and find that Mary Hearne of Mattapeny hundred spinster and wthin
- - - - - - - - - the Jurisdiction of this Court, hath most wickedly sinfully and shamefully ~
Committed fornication and born a Basterd Child to the great dishonour of
Almighty
God, scandall and evil example of all the good people of this Province and in
Contempt of the good laws and institutions of the said Province. Therefore their Maties Attorney Craves
judgment may be entered agt the said Offender according to Law in that Case made and provided . &c.

The Indictmt being Read to which the sd Mary confessed telling the Court that One Lawrence

Burfy was the ffather of her late Basterd Child, and that he was gone out of the Country. and
Therefore humbly requested that Corporall punishment might be remitted and a fine taken wch was
granted. for which fine Wm: Hearne accepted of, and for which the sd Wm. was Ordered to build a paire of
Stocks of white Oake conteining Seaven holes. with Iron worke fitting, according to the directions of John
Emmett, this do be finished by the last of August. the sd Hearne to bring Certificate to September Court
from under sd Emmetts hand to Certifie the same.
Order. likewise given that the sd Mary Hearne give security for her good behaviour and to keep
the County harmless and indempnified from the sd Basterd Child. - - - - - And whereupon Came
the said Wm: ffather to the sd Mary aforesd and did pr Recognizance confess himself to be indebted unto
their
Maties in the sum of tenn pounds sterling money of England due to be leavied on his good & Chattels
Lands & Tennements for their Maties uses &c. - - - - - - - The Condition of this Obligation is such
that if the ab said Mary Hearne be of the good behaviour and abearance to all their Maties Liege people
of this Province, as also keep this County harmless and indemnified from her late Basterd Child then this
Recognizance to be void and of none effect. Otherwise to be and remain in full power force &virtue.

Mary: Mackenny past do present and find that Mary Mackenny of this County Spinster and of Mony
hundd

Committed fornication, and born a Basterd Child, to the great dishonour of Allmighty
God. Scandall & Evil Example to all the good people of this Province, and in Contempt of the good laws and
Institutions of the same. Therefore their Maties Attorney Craves judgment may be entered against the sd Offender
according to law in that Case made and provided. &c. - - - - - James: Sangster. Clk. Indts.

the ffather of her Basterd Child. ----- The sd Mackenny having fitts of sickness, her punishment
was remitted and a fine accepted, which was twenty dayes worke and tools with diet to be paid to George
Betts
Overseer of Mony hundred, also the sd Mary Ordered to find Security for her good behaviour and to
keep the County harmless from sd Child. Whereupon came Henry Haylor, and by Recognizance did
confess
himself indebted to their Maties in the Sum of five pound, for to be leavied on his goods and Chattels
Lands and Tennemts for their Maties uses &c. Vice Condition. Verte
