Then Doctor Jno. Vigerous was examined and Sworn to the truth of the within written declaracon
upon the holy Evangelists before us - - - - - - - - - - - ffrancis Jenckins. ? sealed

Somerset County, Ssc. The Deposition of Martha: Hughes Servant to George Layfield Esqr. saith
that upon the third day of April Anno Dom. 1691. William: Morris Came to the house of her said Master
and after Several abuses to her Master and mistres and her Self she asked the Negro woman who that was
who told her it was black Morris, upon which she said to him mr. Morris, you are a Man that has Some prtense
of Religion, but tis no sign by your prophaneness and ill carriage, do not you know that our Saviour came
down from heaven for our redemption, who imediatly replyed, eye So they say, but God dam him, about a
quarter of an hour after Comeing down in the kitchen, and having some discourse with the sd Morris and
giving him some advice asked him how he could answer it at the tribunal barr before the great Judge of
Heaven and Earth, he imediatly replyed God dam the Judge, and further saith not.

Taken before us underwritten. this 14th: day of April

Somerset County Ssc. The Deposition of John: Emmett (aged fourty -
three years or thereabouts) and Archibald Holmes aged thirty Seaven years or thereabouts, saith that on the
third day of April about Seaven or eight of the Clock in the morning being at the house of mr Edmund: Howard
near Rehobeth town, after they had had some discourse with Wm: Morris, the said Morris did utter Severall
Oaths and curses, upon which the said John: Emmett, did ask him how he could answer the same before the
great judge of Heaven at the last day, upon which the said Morris replyed God dam the judge and farther

saith not. John: Emmett: & Archibald: Holmes

Taken before us underwritten this 14th: day of April Anno. Dom 1691.

The Examination of Anne Vigerous Geo: Layfield. ? Sealed
aged fourteen years or thereabouts saith that at the
house of mr. Edmund: Howard, near Rehobeth she heard Wm: Morris utter
the following speches that he could make a better funeral Serman then that fool Mackemy
at Such a time, and likewise said, dam his Saviour. it being the 3d. day of April 1691
Taken and examined before us underwritten the day and year aforesd this 14th. day of April 1691
