William and Mary by the grace of God over England, Scotland, ffrance and Ireland King and Queen defenders
of the faith &c. To our sheriffe of Somerset County the Constables of Pocomoke hundred and all other Constables
of the severall hundreds, within this County and all other Ministers in the sd County, as well within liberties as
without greeting. fforasmuch as John:Emmet Archibald Holmes Doctt John:Vigerous and Martha A
Servant to George Layfield Esqr. hath come before us ffrancis: Jenckins. Thomas:Newbold & George Layfield
three of our Justices of the Peace within the said County & as their duty incumbent on their Conscienses to
discharge the same have made known by information to us (to wit) that on the third day of this Instant
month of Aprill at the house of John: Edmund Howard the said John:Emmit & Archibald Holmes doe
testifie and the other Evidences at another time and place also, that Wm:Morris of Dividing Creek in Pocomoke
hundred Labourer, not having the fear of God before his eyes, did in a most wicked presumtuous nature &
way vilifie and damnably blaspheam our most sacred and blessed Saviour Jesus Christ, as well as utter
divers others execrable Oaths and Curses, which being reprehended for, and asked how he could answer
the same before the great Judge at the last day, Replyed God damne the Judge with many other neferious
agrevations of the abovesd horrid Crimes against the Honour of Almighty God and against the good & wholesome
Laws provided, as also agt the welfare and prosperity of the good people of this Province - - - - -

Therefore we Command You joyntly and Severally that imediatly upon sight hereof you apprehand and Cause y
said Wm: Morris to come before us or any two of us who have hereunto Subscribed at the house of the above
said George: Layfield to answer to the premises in what shall be then and there for the honour of God and the
Peace and tranquility of this Province, there for the honour of God and the Peace and tranquility of
this Province be objected agt him, and that you cause the abovesd John:Emmett, Archibald Holmes. Dr
John: Vigerous, and his Daughter Anne with the aforesd Martha a Servant to appear at the same time and
place you have your prisoner at, there to give Evidence agt the sd Morris touching the premises, and hereof ye
nor any of you, are not to fail as you will answer the contempt at your peril as wittness the hands and seals
of the sd ffrancis Jenckins, Thomas Newbold and George Layfield this twelvth day of April Ano. Dom. 1691

Memoradum. That upon the second of this present April Ano.1691. there being a funerall Sermon
preached at Rehobeth Church by mr ffrancis Mackenny Minister Towards night on the day aforesd William
Morris came over to the house of mr Edmund Howard near Rehobeth Town, the said Morris began to Cuss &
Swear Severall Oaths agt the sd Mackemy calling him fool and logger head and puppie with other ill
Language saying dam him, he could preach a better sermon then that fool could do upon Such a Subject as death
at last the said Morris laid down to sleep, in the night he got up again I did judge it to be about 12 or 1 a
Clock, the said Morris proceeded much after the aforesd language with many horrible Oaths with ye word
dam him was very frequent in his mouth, at length he repeated Several words Concerning the divil & hell
that he could fool them and death, and Christ our judge dam him with severall other Athiesticall and
blasphemous expressions, as the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death, by whom our judge dam him
thus he held on by him Selfe walking up and down the room untill he called to some body to shew him
