( 63 ) March 10th. 1690/1 Somerset County March 10th. 1690/1 Lazarus: Maddux presenteth James: English, and William: Mason to the Grand Jury for the suspition of felloniously killing of four hoggs of Elinor Cains on Samphire point on the fourteenth day of ffebruary last 1690/1 Evidences Richd. Davis. Thomas: Royall. Jno: Royall James: Terrill. Anne Mason John: Bosman. William :Banister. John: Renshaw. John: Johnson. Paskew: Bartlett. Elizabeth: Howell. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To the Grand Jury March the 10th: 90/91 The Subscriber hereof Complaineth and presenteth Walter Taylor as being guilty of an aggravated Cheat in his the sd Walters perfidious and deceitfull mauling of Cutts of Cypresse Timber into numerous small peeces more then into eight peeces each Cutt, then in putting of the Buyer (fraudulently) with only eight of the said small peeces in Stead of a Cutt of timber under a Colour and disguise of the sd small peeces being quarters of a Cutt, when in reality the sd peeces are found Sometimes to be (at the best) but the 16th part of a Cutt, Sometimes the 24th part of a Cutt Sometimes the 23d part & sometimes the 48th. part of a Cutt mauld for Conveniency, as the trees are very great or as they are smaller Samuel: Hopkins Wittnesses to the premises are Edmund: Hammon Senior John: Hammon. Wm: Richardson & Severall others. Capt. John: Winder being Security for Jno. Kemp.delivers the sd Kemp up in Open Court, requesting ye Court to take new Security which was granted. // And therefore Order was given to the Sherriffe to take the sd Kemp. and One Robert: Downs into Custody till Security should be given by them to abide judgment being indicted for branding a horse illegally. their tryall was this day Suspended. - - - - - - This day Stephen Costin. Donack: Dennis and Thomas: Wilson took the Oath of allegiance & abhorrance mr. Nehemiah Blackinstons letter directed to Coll David Browne, read in Court and given to the Grand Jury. and afterwards the letter given in Court to sd Coll. Browne. it did pertaine to Mustering of Soldiers in our Court the well fixing of Arms, as aso some injury done pr Indians &c. Their Maties Somerset County Ssc. Teague Riggon of this County Planter was Sumoned to answer unto agt their Maties. in a plea of debt &c. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Teague: Riggen And whereupon there Maties Attorney Comes and Sayes yt the sd Teague Riggen deft is - - - - - - - - and stands indebted unto theire Maties in the full & just Sum of Ten pounds money Sterl. as doth and may appear by a Recognizance. Entered and endorsed, the thirteenth day of March Ano.Dom 1689/90 upon Record as by the sd Recognizance recourse thereunto had it doth and may appear where in the said deft did bind and oblige himselfe to be of the good behaviour and abearing to all their Maties good people of this Province in the foresd Sum of 10!.Sterling money to be leavied upon the sd Teague Riggon his goods & Chattels lands and tenements. Yet notwithstanding of the sd Recognizance as sd is extant upon Record in this County Court, not having any release from the sd Recognizance, upon the 11th. day of Novembr last past before their Maties Comrs. in open Court brought to answer for Severall misdemeanours and breach of their Maties Peace, and then and there adjudged to put in new bond & Recogniz taken & entered the 13th. day of March 1689/90 as abovesd & therefore craves judgment agt y sd deft for y abovesd Sum according to Law.
