ffebruary 12th. 1690/1 ( 52 ) Lawrence Crawford plt agt Wm: Matthews deft Somerset County Ss. Wm: Matthews of this County Labourer was attached to answer unto Lawrence Crawford of y Same County Gent in an action of the Case. - - - - -And whereupon the plt by James:Sangster his Attorney Comes and sayes, that the said deft did Covenant and agree to and with the plt last fall to maul the just quantity of Seaven hundred and fifty Loggs. good and Suffitient for fencing in Consideration of two peoples diets for 14// dayes, while getting timber in the Cypresse Swamp on Pocomoke River, whereupon, the sd defendt did take his diet for himself and his mate twenty eight dayes in all which is 14. dayes over and above the agreemt. And the defendt fraudulently and craftily intending to deceive the plt of the foresd agreement and satisfaction for the 14th.dayes pr Rate hath hitherto denyed and yet doth deny to the plts great losse and damage to the value of the mauling of three thousand loggs and hereupon brings this suit. Jno. Doe Sangster pr Quer pled prsois Rich Roe And the Defendt Saith he is no wayes indebted to the plt, and thereupon puts himself to the Court Edward: Jones. Attorney. for deft James: Sangster --- for plt. Anno. 1689: William: Matthews Debitor To 15: dayes accomodations for himself and another the mauling of 750 loggs. To 8:dayes longer accomodations for himself his brother in law and his Servant the mauling of 375 fence loggs. Lawrence: Crawford. The above accot. Sworn unto before us Samll. Hopkins John: King. The Deposition of William:Allen Aged about forty five years being sworn upon the holy Evangelists, saith that about the midle of Septemer last past, William: Matthews hired me to worke in the Cypress Swamp fifteen dayes but I worked but eleaven dayes the uttermost and for so many dayes mr Lawrence Crawford allowed me lodging and dyet and further he saith not. Sworn the fifth day of September. 1690. before us ffra: Jenckins Walter: Taylor Sworn for plt Edmund: Howard - - - - - - - - - - - - The premises being Considered, the Court Orders a Non Suit agt the plt viz Crawford Teague: Riggin Plt Somerset County Ss. Henry: Lynch of this County Gent was attached agt. to answer unto Teague Riggin in an action of the Case - - - - - - - Henry: Lynch:Mercht.deft And whereupon the said Teague Riggin, by Edward Jones his Attorney saith - - - - - - - - - - - - - - that the deft about the month 8ber in the year 1688, then did promise and assume upon himSelf to pay unto the plt the Sum of 830:Pounds of tobacco Contracted by the defts Brother Robert Lynch as doth appeare by accot here in Court produced, but the deft litle regarding his promise and assumption but fraudulently intending the plt to deceive in the Sum of 830. Pounds of tobacco, although often thereunto required whereupon the plt saith he is damnified and hath losse to the value of 1260 Pounds of tobacco and thereupon brings his Suit pr Qur. Edward: Jones.
