Moses Fenton. Plt. Somerset County Ss. Wm: Cooke of this County Planter was Attached to answer
Contra. unto Moses ffenton of the same County in a plea of debt. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Wm: Cooke: Deft. And whereupon the plt by James: Sangster his Attorney Comes and Sayes that

- - - - - - - - - - deft upon the twenty third day of Janry Ano Do: 1688 became indebted unto the
plt in the full and just quantity of five hundred pounds of good Sound Mertable tobacco in Caske to be pd
Convenient
on Pocomoke River as doth and may appear by a Certain instrument under the hand and Seal of the sd deft.whose
date
is the day and year abovesd and is here in Court produced. Yett notwithstanding of the foresd Instrument the sd
deft fraudulently and Craftily intending to deceive the plt hath hitherto denyed payment, and yett doth deny though
often thereunto required to the plts great loss and damage to the value of One thousand pounds of like tobacco in Caske
and thereupon brings this suite. Jno. Doe
James:Sangster. pr Querr pled prsecs Rich.Roe
The Bill mentioned in the Declaration was kept from me pr plts Attorney

Ordered by this Court the bail Bond be Assigned pr the sherriffe to the plt.


Martin: Curtis: Plt. Somerset County Ss. Sylas: Chapman of this County Bricklayer was attached to
Contra. answer unto Martin Curtiss of the same County Taylor in a plea of debt &c.
Silas: Chapman.Dft. And whereupon the plt by James:Sangster his Attorney Comes and Sayes, that

quantity
of foure hundred and twenty pounds of good Sound mertable tobacco in Caske
the which payment well and truly to be made the sd deft did bind himSelf his Heirs, Extors & Admrrs to the plt
his Heirs, Extors Admrs or Assigns as doth and may appear by a Certain Instrument under the hand and Seal of
him
the sd deft. bearing the 15th. day of July Ano. Do. 1686. and is here in Court produced but the sd deft fraudulently
&
Craftily intending to deceive the plt of the sd Sum of 420lb. of tobacco as abovesd hath hitherto denyed ye payment
of the same, and yett doth deny to the plts great losse and damage to the value of 840lb of like tobacco in Caske
and
thereupon brings this Suite. Jno. Doe

Jno: Conner. Deft And whereupon the sd Edmund by Peter. Dent his Attorney saith that the sd Jno.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - is a true Credible and faithfull Subject of our Sovereign Lord the King that
now is, and as Such himself hath governed and behaved from the time of his
Nativity hitherto amoungst his Neighbours and other the good people of this Province, with whom the sd Edmund
hath had any Comerse fellowship or Conversation, hath been noted reputed and taken, without any blott Spott or
foull or
even the Suspition of any felony, theft, robbery falsity or comitting any other ^ hurtfull crime, without blemish un

untouched and unspotted, from the time of his birth hitherto himself hath behaved and governed, whereby he hath
not
only obteyned and gotten to himself the great friendship favour and good will of divers worthy persons and other ye
good people of this Province,but also divers great gains and profitts towards the maintenance of himself and family hath
honestly gained and Obteined Notwithstanding the sd Jno. knowing the happy Estate of the sd Edmund but minding him
