The Senate bill entitled an Act; to build a Bridge over
'South River, in Anne Arundel County,
Reported. back the same favorably, with proposed amend-ments.
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
< . Add at the end of section 1, the following words : but the
said bridge, in the entire cost of its construction, shall not
exceed the sum of sixteen thousand dollars.
The following, to come ia as section three:
SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the said County Commis-
sioners shall, before contracting for the building of said
bridge, advertise for proposals for the building of the same
for three successive weeks, in some newspaper of fair circula-
tion in the county, and which, shall be published at least
once a week, or 'by handbills posted at suitable places, said
proposals to be delivered sealed; and at the expiration of
said period, of advertisement, the aforesaid County Commis-
sioners shall open and 'examine said proposals, and award.
the contract to the lowest responsible bidder or bidders; and
'if the person or persons wha shall be awarded the contract
for the building of said bridge, shall fail to comply with all
the requirement and specifications of the same, the said
Commissioners shall have power to reject their work or make

"word sufficient, insert the following words: " not exceeding
sixteen thousand dollars."
The following, to come in as section four:
"Sec,. 4. And be it enacted, That there shall he appointed
annually, the first appointment to date from the time when
the bridge shall be completed and ready for use, some com-
petent person to act as bridge-keeper, who shall be always
at the spot when his "duties may require his presence, and it
shall be his duty to give free passage, by raising or moving
the draw, to all vessels which may approach said bridge
for the purpose of passing through the same; and said bridge
keeper, for his services, shall receive such compensation as
said County Commissioners shall think just and proper, to
be provided for to the annual levy.
Which were severally read and adopted.
Said bill, as amended, was then read a second time.
