990 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 20,
Code of Public General Laws, title "License," sub-title
"Foreign Corporations and Companies," and to re-enact the
same with amendments,
Said bill being upon a second reading,
Mr. Streett submitted the following amendments :
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Strike out all after the word "and," in line 7, of section
31, and insert the following :
"If a tax of one and one-half."
At the end of line 10, in section 31, insert the following:
"Shall exceed the price of said license, there shall be paid
into the Treasury before a license shall be renewed for the
ensuing year, the whole excess of the one and one-half per
cent, over and above the coat of license."

The bill as amended, was then read a second time.
Mr. Fester, Chairman of the Committee on Corporations,
reported favorably,
A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Baltimore Steam
Dredging Company.
Which, was read a first time.
Mr. Groome, Chairman of the Committee on Federal Re-
lations, reported favorably,
A bill entitled an Act to authorize the United States to
procure the condemnation of lands within the State of Mary-
land, for certain public purposes, and ceding the jurisdiction
thereof when so condemned, to the United States.
Which was read a first time.
Mr. Smith, Chairman of of the Committee on Internal Im-
provements, reported favorably,
A bill entitled an Act supplemental to an Act to confirm
an Act passed by the General Assembly of Virginia, enti-
tled an Act to incorporate the Shenandoah Valley Bail Road
Company, passed February 23d, 1867 ; also, to confirm an
Act passed, by the Legislature of West Virginia, entitled an
Act to authorize the Shenandoah Valley Rail Road Company
to construct their read through the State of West Virginia to
the Potomac River, &c., passed February 25th, 1870, and to
authorize the said Company to extend their road across the
Potomac River to Hagerstown, in Washington county in this
State, approved April 4th, 1870.
