Which was read.
Mr. Staylor (the rules being suspended) presented the peti-
tion of James Sheldon, soldier of the war of 1812 asking for-a pension.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
On motion of Mr. Henkle, (the rules being suspended),
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
report a bill, to enact a supplement to an Act incorporating
the Washington Medical College of Baltimore.,
JOINT ASSEMBLY.
The hour of 12 o'clock, noon, having arrived, in accord-
ance with the message sent to the Senate, the Senators of
Maryland appeared in the Hall of the House of Delegates,
and the two Houses in Joint Convention, in conformity with
the provisions of the Act of Congress,1866, chapter 245, en-
titled "An Act to regulate the times and manner of holding
elections for Senators in Congress," proceeded to hold an
election for Senator, to succeed the Hon, George Vickers, as
Senator from-the State of. Maryland in the Congress of the
United States.
The Secretary of the Senate then proceeded to read, from
the Journal of the Senate the proceedings had upon that sub-
ject in the Senate of Maryland on yesterday.
After which,
The Clerk of the House of Delegates read from the Jour-
nal of the House the proceedings had in that Body upon the
same subject on the same day.
Whereupon, it appearing that no person had received a ma-
jority or all the votes cast in both Houses for Senator in Con-
gress,
The Speaker of the House of Delegates, as Chairman of
the Joint Convention, declared that no person had been
elected Senator from Maryland to the Congress of the United
States.
The roll of Senators was then called by the Secretary of
the Senate, and the roll of the House of Delegates by the
Clerk of the House, when it appeared by a viva voce vote of
