On motion of Mr. Penington,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Claims to introduce
a bill entitled an Act to refund to Jacob Tome, of Cecil coun-
ty, the amount due him out of coupons of the Columbia and.
Port Deposit Railroad Company, which were paid in full
into the Treasury.
Mr. Franklin submitted the following
JOINT RESOLUTIONS "
Unsolved, By the General Assembly of Maryland, that our
enators and Representatives in the Congress of the United
States, be requested to use their efforts to procure the passage of a law, authorizing the employment of an Engineer to
ascertain the cost and practicability of cutting an inlet or
channel from the Atlantic Ocean into the waters Synapuxent
Bay, through the beach opposite the coast of Worcester coun-
ty, in the interests of the commerce of the county, and for
the purpose of affording a secure and convenient harbor for
our shipping, and a place of refuge from the storms by which
great numbers of vessels are stranded on our coast.
Resolved, That the Governor be, and is hereby, requested
to furnish a copy of the preceding resolution to each of our
Senators and Representatives in Congress.
Which were read a first time, and referred to the Commit-
tee on Federal Relation*.
Mr. Stone, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and
Means, reported favorably,
A bill, entitled an Act to amend the Code of Public Local
Laws, title "Queen Anne County," by adding thereto the
following sections, authorizing the qualified voter* of Kent
Island District No. 4, of said county, to determine, by bal-
lot, whether spirituous or fermented liquors shall or shall
not be sold within the limits of said election district,

A bill, entitled an Act to authorize the issueing of licenses
to Telegraph Companies and Express Transportation Compa-
nies not organized under the Laws of this State to transact.

A bill entitled an Act to provide for cancelling the stocks
or bonds of the State of Maryland, now held by the Treasurer
to the credit of the sinking fund and to provide for the in-
vestment of the augmentations of said fund.
