Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
"Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries.
Mr. Markland presented a communication from Messrs. L.
M. Haines, Geo. Balderston, Samuel L. King, A. 1). Evans,
Committee from the Grand Lodge of the Independent 'Order
of Good Templars, asking for the passage of a law, allowing
each district or ward to determine whether or not Liquor Li-
censes shall be granted therin.
Also,
The petition of eleven thousand and forty-three citizens of
the State, for the passage of a law, allowing each district or
ward to determine, by election, whether or not Liquor Licen-
ses shall be granted therein.
Which were severally aead and referred to the Committee
on Ways and Means.
Mr. Porter presented the petition of Eli Miller and. fifty-
four other citizens of Allegany county, asking for\a reduc-
tion of charges for tolls, &c., on coal, over Cumberland and
Pennsylvania Railroad.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.
Mr. Harig presented the petition of James Foy and Wm.
H. Skinner, and sixty other citizens of Baltimore City, against
the alteration of the" Sunday Law.
Which was read and referred to a Select Committee on
that subject.
Mr. Duvall presented the petition of John T. Hodges and.
fifty-seven other citizens of Anne Arundel county, remon-
strating against the building of a bridge over South River, at
the point named in the bill, now pending for that purpose
before the Legislature.
Which was read and referred to the Anne Arundel dele-.
,gation.
Mr. Foster submitted the following order:
Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal, that had Mr.
Foster been present when the Immigration bill was under
consideration, he would have voted against striking out the
enacting clause.
Which was adopted.
Mr. H; H. Lamotte submitted the following order :
Ordered, That U be entered on the Journal that Mr. Polk
is detained from his seat on account of sickness in family.
Which was adopted.
