Said bill was then returned to the Senate.
The Secretary of the Senate returned the following bill,
endorsed "Passed by yeas and nays : " .
The bill entitled a supplement to an Act passed at the
present Session of the General Assembly of Maryland, en-
titled an Act to authorize the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore to issue and lend to the Western Maryland Rail-
road Company the stock of the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore to the amount of one million dollars, redeemable
on the first day of January, 1902, and bearing interest at
the rate of six per cent. per annum, from the first day of
January, 1872, to aid in the construction of the railroad of
said company.
Also delivered the following message :
By THE SENATE,
March 8th, 1872.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:
We have the melancholy duty to announce, that since the
adjournment of the last Session of our General Assembly,
the Hon. G. Frederick Maddox, late Representative from St.
Mary's county, in our Body, has been called, by the hand of
death, from our midst, and his representative worth, ability and
experience has been lost to us.
Fully appreciating this great loss to our State, but bowing
in humble submission to the Divine Will, it only remains for
us to express our reverence and devotion to the memory of
