Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the
day, the House proceeded to the consideration of the message?
to the Senate, submitted by Mr. Griswold on Wednesday,
the 6th inst., concurring in the message from the Senate,
proposing the appointment of a joint committee of five-
on the part of the House, to take into the consideration the
claim of the State against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad
Company, for one-fifth of the passenger transportation on the-
Washington branch road, with a view to its adjustment,
without further litigation, on the principles announced by"
the Court of Appeals, on the 30th of May, 1871, in the case-
of the State against that Company, &c.
The question recurring upon the adoption of the message,.
It was adopted, and Messrs. Griswold, Chapman, Colton
of Baltimore City, Baldwin and Ford, of Queen Anne's,.
constituted & committee as proposed therein.
Said message was then sent to the Senate.
On motion of Mr. Stewart, (the rules being suspended,)
The .House then proceeded to the consideration of the
order of the day,
Being the bill, entitled an Act to repeal chapter 287, of
the Laws passed at January Session, 1870, and to repeal sec-
tion 810, of Article IV of the Code of Public Local Law of
Baltimore City, sub title "Police," and to re-enact the fol-
lowing in lieu thereof. *
Said bill being upon a second reading,
Mr. McCosker submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Section 810, strike out all after the word {< Assembly," in
line 44, to the word "shall," in line 50, and insert ia lieu
thereof the following, viz : " And it shall be part of the duty
of the captains, lieutenants and sergeants, whenever a police-
man is absent from duty, to report such absence to the Board.,.
and the cause of the same, and if the said report shows that
said absence is on account of sickness such report."
Which was adopted.
Mr. McColgan submitted the following amendment :
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Section 810, line 27, after the word " Maryland," insert .-
<( Residence in the City of Baltimore for at least one year before
his appointment."
