1872.] OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES. 715 REPORT. To the Honorable the House of Delegates of Maryland: The Committee on Pensions having considered the various applications and petitions referred to, it respectfully reports that taking into consideration the facts, that the contest, on account of which these pensions are claimed, was not a local, but a national contest. And that since the last Pension Law was passed by the Legislature of this State—the General Government, the prop- er authority to provide for these claims, has passed a law, making provisions for the payment of a pension, somewhat more than that formerly granted by this State—which, law, we consider, broad enough to include all meritorious cases; and the further fact, that this State is now tearing its just and proper proportion of the expense attendant on the pay- ment of these pensions by the General Government, cannot recommend any further payment on this account by this State, and therefore, reports unfavorable on the various ap- plications and petitions referred to it. Also, recommend the repeal of the present pension law. B. S. FORD, Chairman, JOHN H. COOPER, J. McCOLGANS, THOS. MCCOSKER, S. T. SHIPLEY, M. WHITSON, It. J. WALLER, Committee. Which waa read. Mr. Foster, Chairman of the Committee on Corporations, reported favorably, A bill, entitled an Act to incorporate the Baltimore, Hampden and Lake Roland Railroad. Company. Which was read a first time. Also, favorably, A bill, entitled an Act, entitled a supplement to an Act, entitled an Act to incorporate the Baltimore, Oalverton and Powhatan Railroad Company, passed at the January Session, of 1870, chapter 496, to authorize said road to acquire, by purchase or otherwise, the Hookstovn and. Pimlico, and the Randallstown branches of said road. Which was read a first time. |
