Mr. Travers presented the petition of Alexander Bond and
one hundred citizens of Baltimore City, in favor of increasing
the jurisdiction of Justices of the Peace.
Also,
The petition of Augustus P. Webb, J. C. Bosely and
twelve ether merchants and business men of Baltimore, ask-
ing for an increase in the civil jurisdiction of Justices of the
Peace.
Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on the Judiciary.
Also,
The petition of H. Becker and sixty other citizens of Balti-
more, against shoemaking in the Maryland Penitentiary.
Which wag read and referred to the Committee on Manu-
factures.
Mr. Duvall presented the petition of Henry A. Drury,
and seventy other citizens of Anne Arundel county, pray-.
ing for the favorable action of the Legislature on the bill
pending before it in regard to substitutes.
Which wag read and referred to the Committee on Claims.
Mr. Staylor presented the petition of Fahlen & Ohler,
William Bridges, J. A. Dushane, and thirty-eight other
merchants and business men of Baltimore, asking an in-
crease in civil jurisdiction of Magistrates.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.
Mr. Stewart presented the petition of Joseph. Goodman,
Henry Engel, J. E. Trott, Daniel Myers, and twenty-five
other merchants and business** men of Baltimore, asking for
an extension of the jurisdiction of Magistrates.
Which was read and referred to the Committee en the Ju-
diciary.
Mr. Miller presented the petition of D. Agnew, J. T. Hot-
ter, and. forty-six other citizens of Frederick county, against
a Fence Law.
Which was read and referred to the Frederick delegation.
Mr. Feig presented the preamble and resolutions adopted
by the Workingmen's Assembly in mass meeting assembled
in favor of abolishing the contract sytem in the Maryland
Penitentiary.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
