passage of a law giving any ward or district within the State
to determine by ballot whether intoxicating drink should: be
sold within said district.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Way
and Means.
Mr. Colton, of Baltimore City, presented the petition of
Francis T. King and George B. Cole, asking an appropria-
tion for a colored Manual School in the City of Baltimore.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.
Mr. Litzinger presented the petition of the members of
the Gunpowder Club, of Baltimore county, asking the enact-
ment of a, law for the protection of sheep in Baltimore county.
Which was read and referred to the Baltimore county dele^
gation.
Mr. Griswold presented the petition of colored persons for
a law of chastity and bastardy.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.
Mr. Turner presented the petition of A. G. Quynn and
twelve others, of Frederick city, praying the passage of the
bill on its third reading, re-districting the city into ten wards
and a registration law for Frederick.
Also,
The petition of W. Brown, and twenty-three others, pray-
ing the passage of a bill re districting and providing a registration law for Frederick city.
Which were severally read,and referred to the Select Com-
mittee already appointed on that subject.
On motion of Mr. Radcliffe,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Chesapeake
Bay and its Tributaries to prepare and report a bill for the
better protection of bedded or planted oysters, prohibiting
the hauling of seines over said beds, and imposing a penalty
for hauling seines to the shores of persons, without obtain-
ing permission from the owner thereof.
On motion of Mr. Banks,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Library to in-
troduce a bill, directing the State Librarian to furnish tor the
Faculty of Law of the University of Maryland certain lav
books from the State Library.
