The Speaker laid before the House the following communi-
cation from Hon. Joshua Vansant, Mayor of the City of
Baltimore:
MAYOR'S OFFICE, CITY HALL,
Baltimore, January 9, 1872.
To the Honorable,
the General Assembly of Maryland :
GENTLEMEN—I have the honor to submit herewith a certi-
fied copy of an ordinance of the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore, approved October 16th,1871, entitled "An Ordi-
nance to authorize the subscription of seven hundred and fifty
thousand dollars to the stock of the Maryland Central Rail-
road. Company, in the State of Maryland, and a loan to pay
such subscription," and as instructed by the sixth section of
the Ordinance aforesaid to respectfully request the passage of
an act by your Honorable Body to authorize the subscription
and. debt provided for in said Ordinance.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.
The Speaker having announced that there was no further
business before the House,
On motion of Mr. Kirk,
At 11.30 o'clock, A. M., the House took a recess until 1
o'clock, P. M.
At one o'clock, P. M., the House reassembled.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following message:
BY THE SENATE,
January 10, 1872.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:
We invite you to be present in the Senate at half past one
o'clock, P. M., to participate with us in the inauguration
of the Governor elect, and to witness the administration of
the oath by the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals, in
compliance with the requirements of the Constitution and
law of the State. We will appoint a committee to wait upon
your Honorable Body and conduct you to our Chamber. We
have changed, the hour for the ceremony from 2 P. M. to 1 1/2
