1872.3 OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES. 345. Mr. Miller presented the petition of Thomas A. Smith and thirty-three other citizens of Frederick county, asking that. the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company be taxed. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways-. and Means. Mr. Polk presented the petition of Geo. W. Matthews and. thirty-eight others of Carroll county, asking that the capital stock of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company be taxed. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways" and Means. Mr. Roach presented the petition of Dr. J, E. Tull and. three hundred other citizens of District No. 6, Somerset county, asking for the passage of a law prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors within said district. Which was lead and referred to the Somerset delegation . Mr. Hardcastle presented the petition of John W. Temple, James G. Golly, Jno. J. Daily and sixty-eight other citi- zens of Queen Anne's and Caroline counties, in School Dis- trict No. 1, asking fora law to prohibit the sale of spirituous. liquors within said school district. Also, The petition of W. H. Comegys, Robert G. Orrell and ninety other citizens of Caroline county, asking for the pas- sage of a law to .enable the qualified voters of any election, district to determine, by ballot, whether drinking houses may or may not be licensed within such district. Which were severally read. Mr, Hardcastle moved that said petitions be referred to the- Caroline and Queen Anne's delegations. The Speaker decided that the proper reference was to the Committee on Ways and Means, and The petitions were so referred. Mr Scott presented a petition from Charles B. Calvert and seventeen others from Prince George's county in. favor of retrenchment and reform. Also, The petition of N. O. Stephen, and others of Bladensburg, Prince George's county, asking the repeal of so much of the Acts passed at January Session, 1868, chapter 354, and' the Act. passed at January Session, 1870, chapter "428,'as authorizes the Commissioners of Bladensburg to levy and collect taxes in said village. |
