CHAPTER 391.
AN ACT to build a bridge over South River in
Anne Arundel county.
SECTION 1. Be it mailed by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the County Commissioners of Anne
Arundel county be and they are hereby authorized
and required to contract for building and keeping in
repair a free bridge over South River, in Anne
Arundel comity, from the shore of Alexander Ran-
dall to the shore of Mrs. Stephen L. Lee, so as to
connect a public road hereafter to be laid out and
opened from said points; the said bridge to be con-
structed with a draw in the channel of said river of
sufficient width to pass side-wheel steamers usually
navigating said river; but the said bridge, in the en-
tire cost of its construction, shall not exceed the sum
of sixteen thousand dollars.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That for the construc-
tion of said bridge the County Commissioners of
Anne Arundel county be and they are hereby au-
thorized and required to levy, on the assessable prop-
erty of said county, in such manner and at such
time or times as they may deem best, a sum of
money not exceeding sixteen thousand dollars, suf-
ficient for the building of said bridge, a portion
thereof at least to he levied at their next levy term.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the said County
Commissioners shall, before contracting for the building of said bridge, advertise for proposals for the
building of the same, for three successive weeks, in
some newspaper of fair circulation in the county, and
which shall be published at least once a week, or by
handbills posted at suitable places; said proposals to
be delivered sealed, and at the expiration of said pe-
riod of advertisement, the aforesaid County Com-
missioners shall open and examine said proposals,
and award the contract to the lowest responsible bid-
der or bidders; and if the person or persons who
shall be awarded the contract for the building of
said bridge shall fail to comply with all the require-
ments and specifications of the same, the said corn-
