CHAPTER 390.
AN ACT to refund to Doctor L. C. Cox, of Talbot
county, a sum of money paid into the Treasury on
an erroneous assessment of property.
WHEREAS, Doctor L. C. Cox, of Talbot county, was
assessed in the year eighteen hundred and sixty-six,
on seven hundred acres of land, in the sum of twenty-
nine thousand and fifty dollars; and
WHEREAS, in the year eighteen hundred and sev-
enty, the said Cox presented to the commissioners
for Talbot county, a resurvey plat of said lands,
showing the contents to be but five hundred and sixty-three acres; and
WHEREAS, the commissioners of Talbot county, in
the year eighteen hundred and seventy, before the
tax bills for said year were sent out, granted an
abatement on the said lands for the said error in quan-
tity of one hundred and thirty-seven acres, in the
sum of five thousand six hundred and eighty-five
dollars; and
WHEREAS, the State tax bills were sent out against
the said Cox, for the years eighteen hundred and
sixty-seven, and eighteen hundred and sixty-eight,
and eighteen hundred and sixty-nine, for the whole
assessment of twenty-nine thousand and fifty dollars:
therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by flip General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller he and he is hereby
authorized and required to issue his warrant upon
the Treasurer, to pay to Doctor L. C. Cox, of Talbot
county, the sum of thirty-nine dollars and forty-three
cents, being an amount paid into the Treasury by
said Cox, on an erroneous assessment of property for
the years eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, eighteen
hundred and sixty-eight, and eighteen hundred and
sixty-nine.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
