CHAPTER 376.
AN ACT authorising the Middletown and Elkton
Railroad Company, incorporated under the provi-
sions of the Genera] Corporation Law, being chap-
ter TOUT hundred and seventy-six of the laws of
eighteen hundred and .seventy, to charge a greater
rate for tolls and transportation of persons and
freight than is allowed therein, and to form a
union with the Middletown and Elkton Railroad
Company, incorporated by the General Assembly
of the State of Delaware, by chapter one hundred
and forty-three of the laws of eighteen hundred
and seventy-one, so that the capital stock of the said
companies respectively shall form a common stock.
SECTION 1. Be if enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland!, That the President and Directors of the
Middletown and Elkton Railroad, a corporation in-
corporated under the Act of Assembly of eighteen
hundred and seventy, chapter four hundred and
seventy-six, shall have power to demand and receive
for tolls upon and the transportation of persons, goods,
produce, merchandise, or property of any descrip-
tion, transported on said railroad, charges at rates not
exceeding ten cents per ton of property, or five cents
per passenger for each and every mile of transpor-
tation; but for any distance twenty-five cents may be
charged for a passenger or for any quantity of freight.
SEC. 2. And he it enacted, That the President and
Directors of the said Middletown and Elkton Rail-
road are hereby authorized and empowered to form
a union with the Middletown and Elkton Railroad,
incorporated by the General Assembly of the State
of Delaware at its session in eighteen hundred and
seventy-one, with the view of joining this road at the
State line dividing the States of Maryland and Dela-
ware, so that the capital stock of the said companies
respectively shall constitute common stock, and the
respective companies shall constitute one company,
and be entitled to all the rights, privileges, and im-
munities which each and all of them possess, have
and enjoy under and by virtue of their respective
charters.
