the registry list of each ward posted up in at least
five of the most public places in said ward, for at
least five days before the second Monday of Febru-
ary preceding the first election to be held under the
provisions of this Act, and said lists shall state the
name of each and every registered voter of said
ward, and state opposite the name of each whether
white or colored, and any person who shall erase
from or add to any of said lists of qualified voters,
after the officer of registration shall have delivered
the said books of registration to the Register of Fred-
erick city, before and pending the election Text
ensuing, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor', and liable
to presentment and indictment in the Circuit Court
for Frederick county, and on conviction thereof shall
be confined in the Penitentiary [house] of the State
of Maryland for a period of not exceeding five years.
SUB-SEC. 8. The officers of registration appointed
under this Act shall 1) 6 entitled to receive three dol-
lars per day, for each and every day in which they
shall he actually engaged in registering voters enti-
tled to vote within the taxable limits of Frederick
city; and the Mayor, Aldermen, and Common Coun-
cil of Frederick city shall make provisions lor and
pay the per diem of the said officers of registration,
and their expenses for office rent, printing, publishing and posting, which shall be incurred under the
provisions of this Act; and the said officers of regis-
tration shall have and exercise, during the time they
may be engaged in the discharge of their duties, the
powers and authority of a Justice of the Peace, for
the preservation of order in and about the place of
registration; and any of said officers of registration
who shall wilfully and corruptly place upon the reg-
istration list of his ward the name of any person not
entitled under the provisions of tills Act, to be reg-
istered and to vote, or who shall wilfully or corruptly
refuse to strike from said lists the name of any person
not entitled to be registered or to vote, or who shall
wilfully and corruptly refuse to register the name of
any person entitled, under said provisions, to be reg-
istered and to vote, or who shall wilfully or corruptly
strike from said lists the navies of any person entitled
to be registered and to vote, shall be guilty of a mis-
