tion to the Court of Appeals; provided that the
counsel for the accused shall make oath that such ap-
peal is not taken for delay; and such appeal shall be
heard by the Court of Appeals at the earliest conve-
nient day after the same shall have been transmitted
to the said court; and after such appeal shall be en-
tered, no judgment shall be rendered against the ac-
cused, in case he shall be found guilty, until the
Court of Appeals shall have determined upon the
exception, and remand the case to the court below.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.,

CHAPTER 317.
AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay the
claims of Nathan Masters, Henry Kyd Douglas,
James Hopkins, W. L. Pfeiffer, John Murphy and
Company, King Brothers, John Sands, John W.
and Zadoc P. Henry, Anne G. Ross, N. O. Neigh-
bours, Elias Spaulding, and Isaac S. Sanner.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Comptroller be and he is hereby
requested and directed to issue his warrant upon the
Treasurer to pay to Nathan Masters, late collector
for Prince George's county, for taxes overpaid as per
certificate of the Comptroller, thirty dollars and
sixty-five cents; to Henry Kyd Douglas, for per
diem and mileage as a witness before the Court of
Appeals, seventeen dollars and forty cents; to James
Hopkins, for repairs to picture in Senate Chamber,
ten dollars; to W. L. Pfieffer, for work done and
materials furnished in refitting House of Delegates,
as per order of the Chief Clerk, four hundred and
twenty-three dollars; to John Murphy and Company,
for sundries furnished the Chief Clerk of the House
