title "Assignment," as imposes an annual tax of three
cents on each one hundred dollars of the assessable
property, for the use of the State, in aid of other
sources of revenue for the support of government,
commonly known as the " Direct Tax," be and the
same is hereby repealed; provided that any imposi-
tion or levy of said tax for former years shall be good
and valid, and collectable in the same manner as if
this Act had not been passed.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 281.
AN" ACT to authorize and empower the clerk to
the County Commissioners of Dorchester county,
to administer an oath or affirmation, upon any
claim against said county, or upon any official
paper or papers in connection with his office.
SECTION 1. -Be it enacted by the. General Assembly of
Maryland, That the clerk to the County Commis-
sioners of Dorchester county, is hereby authorized
and empowered to administer an oath or-affirmation,
upon any claim against said county, or upon any
official paper or papers connected with his office.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
