them, as also they may fix the pay for laborers,
carts and teams employed in the repair of the said.
roads by the supervisors.
SEC. 5. Awl be it enacted, That no contractor, su-
pervisor, or laborer, shall be paid anything for his.
work on the roads unless he obtains a certificate
from the Board of County Road Commissioners,
certifying that the work for which he is to be paid
has been faithfully done, and that the holder of said
certificate is entitled to the amount of money which
he claims.
SEC. 6. And be it enacted. That the County Com-
missioners shall levy on the assessable property of
the county the amount reported to be necessary by
the Board of County Road Commissioners, and shall
only pay out the said amount levied for roads to
persons holding certificates, as provided for in the
preceding section of this Act.
SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the compensation.
of each member of the Board of County Road Com-
missioners, shall be twenty dollars a year.
SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That chapter two hun-
dred and ninety-nine, of the Act of eighteen hundred
and sixty-eight, entitled " an Act to repeal the Act
of eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, chapter two
hundred and ninety, entitled an Act to add a new-
article to the Code of Public General Laws, to be
enti+ lpri Public Roads, except so far as said Act re-
lates to Somerset county, and to enact the following
section in lieu thereof, be and the same is hereby
repealed, in so far as the same applies to Calvert
county.
SEC. 9. And he it enacted, That this. Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
