CHAPTER 40.
AN ACT to repeal section fifteen, article fifty, en-
titled " Juries," of the Code of Public General
Laws, and to re-enact the same, with amendments
giving to the State the right of peremptory
challenge in certain cases.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section fifteen, of article fifty, of the
Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Juries," be
and the same is hereby repealed, and the following
section enacted in lieu thereof:
SEC. 15. The right of peremptory challenge shall
be allowed to any person who shall be tried on pre-
sentment or indictment for any crime or misdemean-
or, the punishment whereof, by law, is death or
confinement in the penitentiary, and to the State on
the trial of such indictment or presentment; but the
accused shall not challenge more than twenty, nor
the State more than four jurors, without assigning
cause.
SEC. 2. Be, it enacted. That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 41.
AN ACT to revive and extend the Act passed at
December session, eighteen hundred and twenty-
eight, chapter seven, entitled " an Act to incor-
porate the Baltimore Screw Dock Company."
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Act passed at December session,
eighteen hundred and twenty-eight, chapter seven,
entitled " an Act to incorporate the Baltimore
