MONDAY, February 5, 1872.
The House met, and was opened with prayer by the
Chaplain.
Present at the call of the roll the following members :
Messrs. German, Speaker, Colton, of St. Mary's, Wilmer,
Hurtt, Wells, Duvall, Henkle, Bond, Sparrow; Chapman, Stone,
Shipley, Turner, Litzinger, Spencer, Banks, Butler, Golds-borough, Dougherty, Smith, Vickers, Radcliffe, Mearns, Pen-
ington, Scott, Sasscer, Bowie, Eareckson, Franklin, Dela-
plane, Miller, Baldwin, Streett, Deweese, McCosker, Ham-
ilton, T. H., Hamilton, C. R., Jamart, Staylor, Stewart,
Travers, dark, of B. city, Colton, of B city, Kirk, Chaisty,
Harig. Feig, McColgan, Markland, dark, of Mont., Coles,
Robinette, Steele, Lamotte, L. A. J., Polk, Linthicum,
Langrell—56.
Mr. Smith presented the petition of Edward Tubman and
other citizens of Dorchester county, remonstrating against
the repeal of the the Inspections of 1870.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on In-
spection s.
Mr. Chaisty presented the petition of James R. Foreman
and twenty-nine merchants and citizens of Baltimore, asking
that the Inspection Laws may be re-instated, and that addi-
tional obligations may be imposed upon Inspectors for the
faithful discharge of their duties.
Which way read and referred to the Committee on In-
spections.
Mr. Miller presented the petition of J. E. Arnold and
sixty-four other citizens of Frederick county, asking the pas-
sage of a law to allow all Christian denominations within
said county the use of public schoolhouses for public wor-
ship.
Which was read and referred to the Frederick delegation.
Mr. Staylor presented the petition of James W. Sanders
and one hundred and twenty-five other citizens, asking the
abolishment of coopering in the State Penitentiary.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Manu-
factures
Mr. Miller presented the petition of Geo. W. Jones and
fifty other mechanics and. merchants, asking the passage of
